rug hooking

Sunnybrook Design began in 1982 when Mary Ellen Wolff, assisted by her husband Marvin began producing original art work that they sold at juried art shows in Washington, Oregon and Utah.

Mary Ellen was born in Pomona, California and attended the University of Arizona where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a major in Graphic Design.

She has been employed as a Graphic Artist, Technical and Creative Illustrator, Mural Artist, and as the Art Director for the Queen Mary Complex in Long Beach, California.

During her residence in Washington State as an independent artist and designer she has created special poster designs for the Joffrey Ballet and Brothers Four concerts, and for many special events.

Her hand painted designs on wood cover a wide range of subjects, including a limited edition Santa every year for fourteen years and an 11-piece Nativity set in the Byzantine style.

She has designed and produced many hand-pulled serigraphs (silk screened prints). A recent one used forty-five separate screens to produce the forty-five colors in the finished work. Her serigraphs have included a variety of themes such as landscapes, farm scenes, florals, animals, snowmen, and different Santas. Many of her designs were used on greeting cards.

She has two grown children and lives with her husband on a farm near Ferndale, Washington. Her hobbies include rug hooking, genealogy, and reading. She has also prepared a history of the art collection aboard the transatlantic ocean liner the RMS Queen Mary. She teaches rug hooking design at workshops to students locally and in other states.
